President's Message

August Monthly Meeting

We had two guest speakers at our meeting last month: Rudy Crawford from D&D Battery and Kathy Collart from www.KatyDidTravel.com.

Over half of the computers sold now are laptop computers. This means that, for over 50% of our members, battery life is going to become an important issue in the future. Moreover, batteries of all shapes and sizes now inhabit so many of the gadgets that we own: cell phones, cameras, GPS, etc. Rudy attempted to make some sense out of  all our options to keep all of our devices mobile.

Kathy attempted to help US get mobile. She has her own online travel agency. I've been booking all my travel plans online for several years now, and I asked her to demonstrate just how easy it is.

Just how easy is it? Easy enough that her actual demo was under 5 minutes. The rest of her time was taken up with answering questions about the personalized services that she gives.

This past week, I received emails about both Kathy and Rudy. It seems that some of our members contacted each of them after the meeting, and were writing to tell me how happy they were with their services. It's always nice to get that kind of feedback.

In that same vein, I'm happy to report that Motaz (the Excel speaker from the July meeting) delivered the first of his two seminars at our Resource Center. The seminar was filled to capacity, and the audience loved his expertise as well as his enthusiasm.

Thanks again, Motaz. Our members really enjoyed both your appearances, and we're looking forward to the next one (sorry, but I can't take any more registrations - it's already filled).

A new home for TBCS

Our landlord will not be able to review our contract changes until the week of September 19th. While I'm disappointed about the holdup, I remain optimistic that we'll eventually come to an agreement. As always, I'll keep ya posted.

Small Business SIG

We had the first 4 meetings of this new SIG in August. TBCS member Elan Chalford spoke to both the morning and the evening groups about marketing. Once again, I received some glowing emails about him from both groups.

Elan seemed to act as a catalyst for several people. They had several thoughts during or after his presentation about how they should change their marketing materials. His presentation was sooo well received by our members that I guarantee you I'll do my best to bring him back again at some point in the future.

This SIG meets four times a month:

Daytime: 1st & 3rd Thursday from 9-11am

Evening: 2nd & 4th Friday from 7-9pm

All TBCS members are welcome to come to as many of these meetings as they want. Please invite your friends. Non-members are welcome to attend, but they will be required to join TBCS to continue.

If you're interested in joining us, please write to the Club Secretary and I'll put you on our mailing list.

See you soon at either the Resource Center or the Largo Cultural Center!
