September
Monthly Meeting
I had to miss the September
meeting because of the death of a good friend. Matt Mainini & Dave Embury
from Alltel joined the group for the evening. I understand that they
demonstrated the usage of their wireless card that permits Internet access
wherever you have cell-phone service.
They donated two of the cards to
our member drawing. These cards cost about $200 or so up front, and then
you pay a monthly service fee on top. The winners were warned in advance
that it was only worth taking the card if you were willing to pay for the
service.
Still, it was a great deal for the
right person. For people who are highly mobile, the convenience of
go-almost-anywhere Internet access overshadows the expense of it.
A new home for TBCS
Once again, repeat after me: we're
very close to finalizing the agreement on our new home. Once again, I think
it's about to happen. We hope to be able to nail it down pretty soon.
We're bursting at the seams here. Once again, I promise to let you know as
soon as it happens - then we can start waiting for the construction to be
finished and moving day...
Membership
It's been an interesting summer
for us. We generally lose a substantial number of our members during the
summer months. Not this year! This year we have continued to grow. We are
over 950 members at the moment. We're hoping to have a "1000 Members and
STILL Growing" party in a few more months.
Please remember to tell your
friends and neighbors about us. A big part of our growth is due to our
members bragging about us to others - most of our new members come about by
word of mouth.
If you're interested in joining us, please write to the Club Secretary
and I'll put you on our mailing list.
See you soon at either the Resource
Center or the Largo Cultural Center!
