Basic Windows - Doc's Way

On Monday, October 27th, I'm going to cover the items that most of us would consider basic: mousing, the anatomy of a Window, cutting & pasting, etc.  While much of the information I plan on teaching is basic level, I often find people who have been using the computer for years yet don't understand how to perform basic Window's functions like drag & drop, or using the Shift & Ctrl keys to aid in the selection process, and much, much more.

On Tuesday, October 28th, I'll cover things that I think many consider Intermediate-level Windows: Windows Explorer: the heart and soul of Windows, Special Windows Folders, and Managing Your Files and Folders.

This is NOT the same class that Jan Norman teaches.  Windows Basics actually encompasses a rather large area of skills.  I don't try to teach all the individual functions and dialogs included in Windows; I try to teach a fundamental understanding of Windows that helps you to understand HOW Windows "thinks" in such a way that you can apply your understanding to any task that comes your way.

I will be teaching with Windows XP, but you will see that almost everything that I teach applies to ALL versions of Windows.  Understanding Windows functionality often transfers not only to the other versions of Windows, but also to the applications that run under Windows.  That's one of the beautiful things about a solid grounding in Windows fundamentals: once you have learned a skill it is usable in all sorts of places under all sorts of circumstances.
