Tbcs-pages-internet policy Tampa Bay Computer Society Computer and Internet Policies The Tampa Bay Computer Society (TBCS) invites our members to enjoy broadband Internet access at our Resource Center via both wired and wireless connections. We have a computer lab featuring 6 Internet-connected computers and personal productivity programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint available at no cost to our members. We ask that members using TBCS computers consider the feelings and sensibilities of their neighbors and moderate their behavior accordingly. TBCS does not want to be in the business of policing its members regarding Internet access. We would prefer not to have to institute policy when common sense and common decency should suffice. We insist that members comply with club rules, including the guidelines below. Members who cannot abide by these guidelines will be asked to leave. Those making repeated or egregious violations may have their membership revoked. Illegal Activities Use of the TBCS Resource Center is subject to all applicable laws. Illegal use of TBCS computer workstations or Internet access will subject the club member to prosecution by local, state, or federal authorities. TBCS computer workstations may not be used for any illegal activity, including, but not limited to, accessing materials such as pornography, hate speech, or sexually harassing material. Workstations may not be used in a way that intrudes upon the rights of others, including harassment, “spamming”, “hacking” or the creation or dissemination of computer viruses. Due to risks of viruses and the sharing of copyrighted material, Peer-to-Peer file sharing is not allowed. For example, Kazaa, FTP, iMesh, eDonkey, Limewire, Bearshare, WinMX, or other P2P clients. TBCS does not in any way condone the piracy of software, violation of copyright laws, contracts, or licensing agreements, or to accessing materials, which by local community standards would be considered obscene. Users of the Resource Center should report any harassment encountered to TBCS staff. Type of Use Use of the Resource Center is for the benefit of TBCS members only. Guests are welcome, but usage of the computers and Internet access is limited to TBCS members in good standing. Additionally, we ask that you not allow children with you to use the computers or other equipment. TBCS members may not use the Resource Center computers or Internet access for commercial purpose. In consideration of other users of the Resource Center, please do not use the computers or Internet access for purely social reasons, such as gaming, chatting, or instant messaging. TBCS insists that you do not download, install, or modify software programs without our authorization. TBCS asks users to refrain from tampering with our equipment. If any equipment is operating improperly, please ask our staff for assistance. Privacy and Security Use of the TBCS computers and Internet access is totally at the risk of the user and no privacy expectation should be inferred. Members are cautioned that all Internet access is monitored and logged by our Internet Service Provider. Members should not give personal information such as passwords, names, addresses, telephone numbers, or credit card numbers over the Internet. In addition, users of TBCS computers are warned that some private information maybe be temporarily stored on the computer. Always use the features of Windows to erase as much personal data as possible after using the computer. Printing A printer is available in the Resource Center for occasional use by TBCS members. Users may print up to 5 pages without cost. After 5 pages, there is a charge of 5 cents per page. We recommend using the Print Preview feature before printing so that you don't waste our resources. Please ask for assistance if necessary. TBCS reserves the right to modify these guidelines at any time without notice. Club Business Page TBCS Main Page
